Some fabrics do half the work for you, and pearl quilted taffeta is one of them. It's a crisp, shimmering taffeta that arrives already quilted and finished with pearl beads, so a simple cushion, a plain bodice or a pair of curtains instantly looks special. We've just added four colourways to the website, and every one is currently reduced from £7.49 to £6.74 per metre.
What is pearl quilted taffeta?
Taffeta is a fine, tightly woven fabric with a crisp feel and a lovely sheen. Our pearl quilted versions take that base, stitch a quilted pattern into it and add pearl beads, giving a rich, textured surface that catches the light. All four are 150cm (60") wide, so you get plenty from every metre, and if you order more than one metre it's cut from the roll in one continuous length.
Four colours to choose from
- Dusky Pink Pearl Quilted Taffeta: a soft pinkish red with a two-tone shot, faux silk look. 100% polyester, around 80g per square metre. £6.74 per metre (was £7.49).
- Burgundy Wine Pearl Quilted Taffeta: diamond quilted with pearl beads in a deep, rich shade that suits autumn and winter perfectly. 100% polyester. £6.74 per metre (was £7.49).
- Turquoise Blue Diamond Stitch Pearl Taffeta: a diamond-stitch quilt with a pearl bead at the points of the design. 100% polyester. £6.74 per metre (was £7.49).
- Turquoise Pin-Tuck Quilted Pearl Taffeta: pin-tuck quilted with pearls for a two-tone sheen. Available by the metre at £6.74 (was £7.49) or in 10m, 30m, 50m and 100m trade lengths, with 10m at £63.00 (was £70.00). Handy if you're styling an event or making a batch of costumes.
Party season dresses and outfits
With Christmas dos and New Year parties on the horizon, pearl quilted taffeta is a quick route to an outfit that looks far more expensive than it was to make. Because the texture and beading are already built in, it works best with simple shapes that let the fabric shine:
- Fitted bodices and corset-style tops
- A-line or pencil skirts
- Waistcoats and cropped occasion jackets
- Costume and stage pieces where you want instant impact
A few sewing tips: use a fresh, sharp needle and a slightly longer stitch length, and keep seams to a minimum so you aren't stitching through lots of beaded areas. It's worth carefully removing any pearls that sit inside the seam allowance before you sew, so your needle glides through. For a balanced look, pair it with plain two-tone shot taffeta for sleeves, panels or lining.
Cushions, curtains and festive décor
This is where pearl quilted taffeta really earns its keep. The quilting gives it body, so it holds its shape nicely on soft furnishings.
- Cushion covers: at 150cm wide, a single metre gives you several 45cm cushion fronts. Back them with a plain taffeta or cotton to keep costs down.
- Curtains and drapery: the Burgundy Wine and Turquoise Blue diamond stitch designs are both suited to curtains, giving a room a dramatic, textured finish.
- Christmas table styling: a burgundy runner down the middle of the table looks wonderfully festive with gold or white tableware.
- Backdrops and event décor: the turquoise trade lengths are ideal for photo backdrops, stage dressing and party styling.
How much fabric do I need?
It depends on your project, your size and the pattern, so always check your pattern's fabric requirements for a 150cm width. For a step-by-step breakdown for curtains, cushions and dresses, take a look at our guide: How Much Fabric Do I Need?
